Fred Junior Cushenbery

Funeral services for Fred Junior Cushenbery will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Greg Hook officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Fred Junior Cushenbery, son of the late Fred Allen and Dora May (Gaddie) Cushenbery, was born September 9, 1928, at Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away January 12, 2013, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 3 days.

Fred attended Alva Public Schools. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On September 10, 1952, he was united in marriage to Betty Lois Reutlinger at Alva. He started hauling ice when he was 13, and later moved to Wichita where he worked at Boeing and at several body shops. He returned to Alva where he worked at K&K Body Works for 27 years until his retirement.

Fred was a member of the Alva First Baptist Church. He loved football and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the OU Sooners. He also enjoyed woodworking and collecting belt buckles.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and six brothers, Thelma, Claude, Helen, Blanche, Glenn (Bud), Juanita, Willis, Virginia, Max, Rose Ann, Betty Jean, Charles (Rex) and Jimmie.

Fred is survived by his wife, Betty, of Alva; one daughter, Sherry Ward and husband, Jeff, of Pratt, Kansas; two grandchildren, Travis Ward of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Samantha Ward and her fiancé, Zach Pixler, of Pratt, Kansas, and one sister-in-law, Naoma Cushenbery, of Ark City, Kansas; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home at Fred's request to a scholarship for his grandson, Travis Ward, at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
