Marilyn Lou Smart

Funeral services for Marilyn Lou Smart will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the Marshall Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Greg Hook officiating. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Overland Park, Kansas under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Marilyn Lou Smart, daughter of the late Roy and Lillian Grace (Neely) Cathy, was born August 4, 1931, at Argentine, Kansas, and passed away January 27, 2013, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 22 days.

Marilyn graduated from Shawnee Mission North School and attended college. On September 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald Raymond Smart at Overland Park, Kansas. They lived in Shawnee, Kansas, before moving to Liberal, Kansas in 1960. They moved to Alva in 1972. She owned a dance studio in Shawnee, Kansas, Liberal, Kansas, and Alva, Oklahoma, as well as worked as a secretary and in daycare.

She was a member of the Alva First Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, going to garage sales, but she really loved being around her grandkids.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Sue Bradstreet.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Don, of Alva; one daughter, Lisa Darbe and husband, Kevin, of Edmond; two sons, Timothy Smart and wife, Greg, of Alva, and David Smart and wife, Carla, of Alva; eleven grandchildren, Cody Darbe of New York, Brianne Heckathorn and husband, Andy, of Edmond, Sarah Smart, Jeremy Smart, Dane Smart, Daylin Smart, Kalib Smart, Eyan Smart, all of Alva, Bonnie Tune and husband, Jeremy, of Alva, Danielle Watkins of Enid, and Zach Smart of Alva; 7 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva First Baptist Church.
