Devona Dee McMurphy

Funeral services for Devona Dee McMurphy will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Taylor Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Devona D. McMurphy, daughter of the late Arthur Templin and Mildred W. (Wilson) Arndt, was born December 3, 1937, at Hardtner, Kansas, and passed away September 9, 2023, at Oklahoma City, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 6 days. Devona grew up northwest of Alva and graduated from Farry High School in 1955. She then attended Northwestern Oklahoma State College where she met her first husband, Jim Robison. They were married February 2, 1957, at her grandparents home. They made their home in Ada and Oklahoma City before returning to Alva. She worked for a time at Schumacher’s and at the telephone company. Devona and Jim were married for 51 years until his death in 2008. She later was united in marriage to Robert McMurphy on July 16, 2009, at Ponca City. They made their home in Alva. Devona was a loving wife and a wonderful sister. She was loved by many. Devona loved to read, especially medical books and books about different vitamins and health. She also was a passionate decorator and opened their home entertaining family and friends. She was a member of the Plain Truth Church for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Mildred; her first husband, Jim; a sister-in-law, Sandi Arndt; a stepson, Allen McMurphy; and a step grandson, Shaun Cover. Devona is survived by her husband, Robert, of Alva; two brothers, Danny Arndt and wife, Linda, of Wellington, Kansas, and Ken Arndt of Stillwater; two stepsons, Les McMurphy and wife, Sandy, of Roseville, Michigan, and Steve McMurphy and wife, Sandy, of San Diego, California; and step daughter-in-law, Karen McMurphy of Yuma, Arizona. Also surviving are nine step grandchildren, Bob McMurphy and wife, Rachelle, of George, Utah, Aaron McMurphy of Roseville, Michigan, Korey McMurphy and wife, Jeweli, of Eureka, California, Sarah Lautenschlager and husband, David, of Gilbert, Arizona, Andrew McMurphy and wife, Jessica, of San Carlos, California, Laura Minenna and husband, Justin, of Sun City, California, Cassie McMurphy of San Diego, California, Lacie Nicolaysen and husband, Chris, of Stafford, Virginia, and Jaime McMurphy of Baraga, Michigan; twenty-two step great grandchildren, Allison, Allexie, Anthony, Austin, Jacob, Londen, Bree, Aubree, Adelyn, Jake, Olivia, Malley, Kaylie, Denver, Alexa Annalynn, Kayla, Mason, Jackson, Mattix, Allen, Eden, and Kaden; brother-in-law, Bill McMurphy and wife, Elma, and sister-in-law, Thelma Crouch and husband, Allen J, all of Alva; many other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Woods County Senior Citizen’s Center.
