Donald Dean Pfeiffer

A Celebration of Life gathering will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Donald Dean Pfeiffer was born on January 18, 1935, in Protection, KS to Theresa Sophia Oltman-Pfeiffer and Alvin Arthur Pfeiffer. Don passed away peacefully surrounded by a multitude of family on his 91st birthday, January 18, 2026. Don graduated from Protection High School in 1952, after which he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, where he played baritone in the NWOSU band. He earned his degree in Industrial Arts in 1957. During his time at Northwestern, Don met the love of his life, Bertha “Bunny” Jones. Their courtship began with a memorable first date -Don arrived in is black Studebaker convertible, wearing a white scarf, and Bunny was smitten. The couple married later that year and went on to share 68 wonderful years together, blessed with six children -Thomas Dean, Daniel Ray, Donna Beth, James Arthur, Chere Jean, and Dwight Sean - of whom they are deeply proud. Don worked briefly as a teacher before returning to Magnuson’s Grocery. It was there that customers began asking him to “fix” things, unknowingly setting the foundation for a lifelong career in homebuilding, remodeling, and woodworking. He went on to establish Pfeiffer and Son’s Construction, building numerous homes in Alva and the surrounding areas for more than 40 years. Don built a fabulous home for his own family and was especially proud of his master craftsmanship, hand-building fine cabinetry and creating work that reflected his skill, dedication, and attention to detail. He always said, “Do it right the first time” and “Measure twice, cut once.” His greatest passion was his children, and he delighted in giving them meaningful experiences - whether through Pinewood Derby projects, his fascination with trains and airplanes, shared hobbies, or hours spent tinkering with motorcycles and vehicles. Don and Bunny made many cherished memories through a variety of camping experiences with their children, and Don especially loved driving his motorhome. In later years, Don and Bunny faithfully listened to their grandchildren’s sporting events on the radio and rarely missed a game. He also found great enjoyment harvesting wheat on his open-cab Gleaner combine. He experienced a sense of peace both in the wheat fields and while tending to his backyard fruit trees. Don and Bunny shared 68 blessed years of marriage and a loving family that included six children, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Don passed on to his family his love of music, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and remarkable ability to fix just about anything. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Wimmer; his brothers, Glenn “Cotton” Pfeiffer, Kenny Pfeiffer, and infant brother Dwight Pfeiffer; and his granddaughters, Sara Pfeiffer and Jessica Williams. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Bunny, of Alva; his children, Tom (Kim) Pfeiffer of Maize, Kansas; Dan (Lisa) Pfeiffer of Edmond; Donna Pfeiffer of Edmond; Jim (Annette) Pfeiffer of Alva; Chere (Mark) Williams of Alva; and Dwight (Sherri) Pfeiffer of Estes Park, Colorado; his siblings, brother Alvin Pfeiffer and sisters Ruth Bratcher and Alice Deck; his grandchildren, Attie (Chadd) Pelnar, Daniel Pfeiffer, Maggie (Ben) Foster, Megan (Casey Kohler) Rickie, Kaitlin (Cody) Wheeler, Ashlyn (Justin) Pugh, Justin (Kirsten) Pfeiffer, Jacob (Madison) Williams, Jordan (Jay) Benson, and Madelyn Pfeiffer; and multiple great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the NWTC Foundation for an LPN Scholarship in memory of his granddaughter, Jessica Williams.
