Harvey Gene Schuessler

Memorial services for Harvey Schuessler will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2024, at the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Timothy Roggow officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be a visitation with family present 5-7 p.m. Friday at Marshall Funeral Home. Harvey Gene, son of the late Walter and Edna Anna Marie (Rauh) Schuessler, was born May 1, 1937, at Cherokee, Oklahoma, and passed away at his home, peacefully surrounded by his family, March 17, 2025, at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 16 days. Harvey was raised in Alva along with his sister and attended the Lutheran School, later graduating from Alva High School. He enlisted in the National Guard and was honorably discharge after serving. He met the love of his life, Shirley Kramer, through Lutheran Walther League and several years later married on December 30, 1960, at Oklahoma City. They soon made their home in Alva where they raised their family. He and Shirley worked at their business Schuessler Insurance and Real Estate which was purchased by his daughter and her husband. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and served on many boards and other capacities in the church. Harvey was also a member of the Kiwanis and the Lions Club. He enjoyed skiing, being on the water or the snow, bowling, traveling with family, fishing, and his coffee group at Holders. Harvey also enjoyed farming and tinkering and restoring old machinery and cars. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Besides his parents, Walter and Edna, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; and brothers-in-law, Don Hughes and Marvin Kramer. He is survived by his children, Keith Schuessler and his wife, Shari, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Brenda Hood and her husband, Mike, of Alva, and Scott Schuessler and his wife, Christa, of Stillwater; his sister, Ruby Hughes of Aline; eight grandchildren, Brandon Schuessler and his wife, Lindsey, of Assaria, Kansas, Holly Cooprider and her husband, Brent, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Kevin Schuessler of Hutchinson, Kansas, Davis Hood and his wife, Hayley, of Frisco, Texas, Heather Jenkins and her husband, Matthew, of Tulsa, Karsten Schuessler of Oklahoma City, Eric Schuessler of Springfield, Missouri, and Tripp Schuessler of Stillwater. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, Kennedy, Lucas, and Savannah Schuessler, Amelia and Thomas Cooprider, and Ava and Hudson Jenkins; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kramer of Dallas, Texas; other relatives and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Zion Lutheran Church/Murley Fund.
