Mary Lorene Henson

Funeral services for Mary Lorene (Best) Henson will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016, at the Cedar Grove Wesleyan Church with Rev. Harold Henson and Rev. Max Colaw officiating. Interment will be in the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery in West Lafayette, Indiana, at a later date. Services are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Mary Lorene Henson, daughter of the late Delbert Charles and Esther Kathryn (Smith) Best, was born September 29, 1934, at Lafayette, Indiana, and passed away September 28, 2016, at her home in Woods County, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 30 days. Mary graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School on May 28, 1952. On February 24, 1956, she was united in marriage to Roy E. Henson. She was an accountant with the Indiana Veteran’s Home for 26 years, retiring in August, 2005. She moved to Alva August 9, 2014. Mary was a member of Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan Church and became a member of the Cedar Grove Wesleyan Church in Alva. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi since November, 1954, serving as President for several years. She enjoyed nature, gardening, birdwatching, quilting, and cooking. She enjoyed creating flower arrangements for Sunday church service. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; one sister, Marjorie Deeming; and one brother, Donald Best. Mary is survived by three children, Tari S. Seeger of Lafayette, Indiana, Kevin M. Henson and wife, Krista, of Lafayette, Indiana, and Rev. Harold N. Henson and wife, Angie, of Alva; six grandchildren, John C. Seeger and wife, Savannah, of Rapid City, South Dakota, Sarah C. Seeger, of Lafayette, Indiana, Roy E. Henson and wife, Druelle, of Kiowa, Kansas, Kristi E. Henson of Alva, Caleb R. Henson of Lafayette, Indiana, and Darvion R. Henson of Alva; four great grandchildren, Evan J. Fruend, Emaylia J. Seeger, and Eli J. Seeger, all of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Kaliya C. Seeger of Lafayette, Indiana; one brother, Charles Best and wife, Bonnie, of Lafayette, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Esther Best of Lafayette, Indiana; other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Cedar Grove Church or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
