Shirley Anne Christopher

Graveside memorial services for Shirley Christopher will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Hardtner Cemetery with Rev. Taylor Anderson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home, Alva. Shirley Anne, daughter of the late Guy Harrison and Selema Viola (Buzzard) Lewis, was born April 17, 1936, at Alva, and passed away March 3, 2024, at Alva, at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 15 days. Shirley was raised in Alva where she attended school as member of the class of 1954. She joined the Rainbow Girls in Alva in 1949. In 1959 she became a member of the Eastern Star, later transferring her membership to Freedom in 1977, and later to Arlington, Texas, in 1999. She was active in these organizations and received her 60 year pin for the Rainbow Girls in 2009 and also her 50 year pin for Eastern Star that same year. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Arlington and Alva. Shirley loved to live life, she enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking for her family, and entertaining friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. On October 31, 1976, she was united in marriage to Terry Christopher. They made their home in Wichita, Kansas. Their love for travel and family took them to many other places. They lived in Israel for a couple of years as well as Freedom where they ran the Phillips 66 and later settled in Arlington, Texas, before returning to Alva for the past 8 years. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Terry Christopher; her parents, Guy, and Viola, and three sisters, Claretta Gerloff, infant Vera Jean Lewis, and infant Virginia Pearl Lewis. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Defonda “Dee” Hopping and husband, Mark, of Wichita, Kansas, and Delana “Loni” Staats and husband, Jack, of Alva; her stepdaughter, Devera Williams and husband, Shannon, of Pace, Florida, her stepson, Lee Christopher and wife, Triva, of Mesa, Arizona; and a special nephew, Gary Gerloff and wife, Vanessa, of Freedom; a special great niece Lori King and husband, Randy, of Enid; and a special great nephew, Chance Gerloff and wife, Aly, of Freedom. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Chris Hopping and wife, Andrea, of Wichita, Kansas, Courtney Weber and husband, Sy, of Wichita, Kansas, Colby Staats and wife, Kentra, of Blanchard, Chelsea Puckett of Enid, Ciera Stewart and husband, Chris, of Alva, John Williams of Pace, Florida, Alexandria Williams, of Pace, Florida, Samantha Mason and husband, Corbin, of Columbus, Georgia, and Landon Christopher of Boise, Idaho; fourteen great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva Goldbug Education Foundation.
