Memorial services for Avis Leah Marcum will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018, at the Alva First Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Ruwaldt officiating. She was cremated at her request under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Avis Leah (Morehart) Marcum, daughter of Omer Conrad and Eda Ona (Knetzer) Morehart, was born December 29, 1920, at Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away August 20, 2018, at Claremore, Oklahoma, at the age of 97. Avis attended Rural Lone Star School District #6, graduated from Alva High School with the Class of 1937, and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University for 2 years. On June 11, 1939, Avis was united in marriage to Frank Kenneth Marcum at Alva, Oklahoma. They farmed and ranched in the Alva area. In 1958 she went to work at the Marcum and Marcum Tire Store and kept books for the store and farm for many years. She was a member of the Alva First Baptist Church, Iris Garden Club, Alva Research Club and Delta Zeta. In her spare time she enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, going to the farm, gardening and sewing. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, James Edward Marcum, William Barney Marcum, and Mary Anne Millikan and husband Steve; one brother, Jewel Morehart and wife Evelyn and one sister, Thelma Lucas and husband Oliver (Oz); and three grandchildren, Miriam and Lillee Millikan, and Kenny Chapman of Gage, Oklahoma. Avis is survived by three daughters, Susan Dorton and husband, Don, of Oklahoma City, Dana Chapman and husband, Dean of Gage, and Kathleen Keesee and husband, Preston, of Pryor, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved are Brenda Schmidt and husband Mike of West Virginia, Misty Busche and husband, Jason of Hutchinson, Kansas, David Dorton of Chicago, Illinois, Daniel Dorton of Oklahoma City, Sandy Keesee of Pryor, and Valarie Dobbins and husband, Jason of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jesse Chapman and wife, Michelle, of Alva, Katie Miraglia and husband, Dominic, of McKinney, Texas, Jim Chapman and wife, Johnna, of Follett, Texas, Danny Chapman and wife, Robin, of Lindsay, Oklahoma. Avis was blessed with eleven great grandchildren, Jordan Dorton of Oklahoma City, Caleb Chapman, Audra Chapman, and Aimee Chapman, all of Alva, Jalyn Busche and Jaxyn Busche, both of Hutchinson, Kansas, Bradyn Busche of Alva, Emily Dobbins, Benjamin Dobbins, William Dobbins and Nathan Dobbins all of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; other relatives and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the First Baptist Church or NWOSU Foundation.
