Funeral services for Betty Louise Sloan will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Cleo Springs Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jim Burggraf officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary, LLC. Viewing will be at Marshall Funeral Home of Alva because of the road construction in Carmen. There will be visitation with the family present on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Betty Louise Sloan, daughter of the late Charles Henry and Anna Irene (Gleason) Link, was born October 16, 1938, at home east of Taloga, Oklahoma, and passed away September, 5, 2021, at her home west of Aline, Oklahoma, at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 19 days. Betty graduated from Taloga High School, then attended Friends Bible College in Haviland, Kansas. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Bethany Nazarene University. She later completed her Master’s Degree in English Literature at Oklahoma State University. While attending OSU, she met Earl Eugene Sloan and they were married June 3, 1961. She taught English Composition at OSU before she and Eugene accepted teaching positions at Greenfield School. They later moved to the farm west of Aline. Betty farmed with her husband, Eugene, for over 60 years. She loved gardening. Her family and friends enjoyed the beauty of her flowers and the fruits of her garden, especially the strawberries that she tended to relentlessly. She loved snow and water skiing and enjoyed sharing time with family and friends through many church activities and impromptu cookouts. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing she is home. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Elnora Herrman. Betty is survived by her husband, Eugene, of Aline; two children, Brent Lee Sloan and wife, Sherri’, of Aline, and LaDonna Jean Sloan and husband, Brian LaRoche, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two siblings, Blanche Goff and husband, Kenny, and Charlene Adamson and husband, Bob. Also surviving are two grandsons, Kent Lee Sloan and wife, Jessie, Breton Lynn Sloan and wife, Brianna; three grandchildren by marriage, Brandon Forrest and wife, Amy, Jamie Caldwell and husband, Kyle, and Julie Forrest and fiancé, Austin McDonald; one great granddaughter, Savannah Sloan; two great grandchildren by marriage, Olivia Forrest and Jackson Forrest; many cousins, other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Child Sponsorship.
