Billie Ann Stites Johnson, 87, passed into the waiting arms of the Lord on January 2, 2017, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Billie Ann was born at 206 Barnes in Alva, Oklahoma, on July 13, 1929, to Elizabeth and William Stites. She loved growing up in Alva and was an excellent student who graduated from Alva High School in May of 1947 and then married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. (Bill) Johnson on June 1st of 1947. They had three children: Gary, Joy, and Teresa. She was a life-long member and minister in the Community of Christ. She was a gifted piano player and especially enjoyed playing organ/piano duets at church with her older sister, Joyce. She passed on that love of music to her family. She was an accomplished seamstress and a gardener who loved growing roses. Billie Ann especially loved cooking and taking care of her family. She was an independent, hard working woman who loved learning and reading her whole life. Following her father’s retirement from the Alva Electric Supply, she and Bill co-owned and operated the store until they retired on Jan 1st 1995. After the untimely passing of her husband in February, 1995 she was able to dedicate herself to the Lord’s work but also made time to travel to Hawaii, Alaska, and Germany with family and friends. She loved to volunteer at the Bill Johnson Correctional Center and attended all of their graduation ceremonies until she moved to Edmond in 2007. She moved to St. Simeon’s in Tulsa in May, 2013 where she was surrounded by loving and compassionate care until her peaceful passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her sister Joyce and many loved ones and friends. She is survived by her three children, Gary Johnson and wife Glyenna of Enid, OK; Joy Hatfield and husband Steve of Tulsa, OK and Teresa Deck and husband Larry of Edmond, OK; her six grandchildren, Paul Hatfield (wife Cori), Jill Allen (husband Jonathan), Amanda Lewellen (husband Justin), Denver Johnson Smith (wife Madison), Van Johnson (wife Brittany), Brooke Crawford (husband Tyler); three great grandchildren, Aubrey and Jared Hatfield and Sam Lewellen; and her nephew, Bill Beeler and niece, Brenda Johnson. In lieu of lowers, donations can be made to the Bill Johnson Correctional Center.
