Caitlyn Layne McOsker

August 1, 1991 - September 23, 2018

The Celebration of Life for Caitlyn McOsker will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Alva, Oklahoma, with Rev. Chris Ruwaldt officiating. Caitlyn’s wish was to be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Caitlyn Layne McOsker, was born on the first day of August 1991, to Jeffrey Dale and Charita Lou (Lightfoot) McOsker in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and passed away September, 23, 2018, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 27 years, one month, and 22 days. Caitlyn was the fourth of five children, and dearly loved her brothers and sister. Her siblings are Justin Dale McOsker, Jennifer Roseann (McOsker) Schafer, Ethan Perry McOsker, and Noah Michael McOsker. Caitlyn and her brothers and sister were all passionate about hunting, a trait they shared with their father. There was a little friendly competition to see who could find the largest buck! They also loved to shoot, and often competed in target practice. It was not unusual for Caitlyn to outshoot her brothers. Caitlyn attended Alva Public Schools and graduated from Alva High School with the Class of 2010. She was involved in many school activities, played Ladybug Basketball, was active in the Student Council and the Key Club, was a member of the Oklahoma High School Honor Society, and was awarded the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. She was active in two youth groups during her teenage years, the Cedar Grove Wesleyan Church youth group and the Alva First Baptist Church youth group. She loved to go to Falls Creek church camp and to Super Summer. She also loved to go on mission trips; she volunteered at the homeless shelter kitchen in Oklahoma City, helped put on a Vacation Bible School in a housing project in Dallas, and worked with a team in Mississippi to rebuild a widow’s home after Hurricane Katrina. During high school and college, Caitlyn worked a variety of jobs, first at Bar S Clothing, then Alva’s Market, and Daisy Village, and then for 2 years at Alva State Bank. During the first two years of college, Caitlyn participated in the AmeriCorp volunteer program that allowed her to do tutoring in the grade schools with children in math and reading. Caitlyn attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University where she was active in the Social Workers of Tomorrow, and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Social Work in May 2014. Caitlyn worked for the Department of Human Services, Child Protective Services. Caitlyn was passionate about protecting children, about helping families heal and be well. Her career goal was to work in adoptions. After her youngest brother joined the family by adoption, and her oldest niece also joined the family by adoption, Caitlyn gained a love for that field. Caitlyn was diagnosed with cancer in May 2016. The community rallied around her and provided wonderful support and encouragement. The Alva Moose Lodge along with the local law enforcement and fire department organized a Poker Run and auction to benefit her in July 2016. The Dacoma Fire Department had a fundraiser for her in November 2017. She received many gifts from people, boosting her spirits and strength. The emotional support gave Caitlyn the courage to fight. Caitlyn was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Perry and Carol McOsker. She is survived by her parents, Jeff and Charita McOsker of Alva; her sister, Jennifer and Craig Schafer of Alva; her brothers, Noah McOsker of Alva, Ethan McOsker of Alva, Justin and Daniele McOsker of McKinney, Texas; her nieces and nephews, Hudson and Hayden of McKinney, Texas, Shelby, Clayse, Bane, Chauncey, and a new baby to be born on October 5, all of Alva; her grandparents, Chuck and Emma Lou Lighfoot of Alva. Also surviving are a large number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She loved her large family. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to a love fund for her nieces and nephews college education.
