Funeral services for Martha Helen Grayson will be 10:00 am Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Waynoka with Rev. David Shaw officiating. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka, LLC. Martha Helen Grayson, daughter of the late John Edward and Hope Belle (Hosman) Gash was born the third of ten children on April 14, 1915, south of Woodward, Oklahoma, and passed away May 21, 2016, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 101 years, 1 month, and 7 days. After attending a country school in Keenon, Oklahoma, for eight years Helen worked in private homes during summer harvests. Helen took care of her mother for five years and was also a waitress in a café in Woodward. Helen married Clyde Grayson in Woodward on June 6, 1932. Their son, Clyde, Jr., was born February 14, 1934. Helen lived her entire life in and around Woodward, Mooreland, and Waynoka. She worked as a bookkeeper with her husband in a auto repair shop that they owned. Helen was in charge of the AAA office and state safety inspections for forty plus years. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynoka where she worked in the kitchen for twenty years. She belonged to the Saddle Club, was a board member of the Waynoka Senior Citizens, and bowled in a Alva bowling league for ten years. She enjoyed doing crafts and skating parties in her younger years. Helen was also very proud of the fact that she was a direct descendent of Daniel Boone. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, and son, Clyde, Jr. She was also preceded by four sisters, Elsie Sawyer, Marie Dailing, Pauline Cranmar, and Mary Opal Cranmar; and five brothers, Clarence Gash, Mate Gash, Roy Boner, Marvin Gash, and Edward Gash. Helen is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dorthy Grayson of Newton, Iowa; grandchildren, Dr. Rick Grayson and wife, Shawn, of Kansas City, Missouri, Randy Grayson and wife, Stacey, of Newton, Iowa, and Julie Fisher and husband, Don, of Newton, Iowa; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Waynoka First Baptist Church.
