Dale Gene Nusser

Funeral services for Dale Nusser will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Woods County Fairgrounds Women’s Building with John Clapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be a visitation with family present Monday 5-7:00 p.m. at Marshall Funeral Home. Dale Gene, son of Patty (Lakely) and Dean Nusser was born on March 01, 1953, in the Alva General Hospital and passed away peacefully at home on the 26th day of February, three days shy of his 73rd birthday. Dale attended the Friendship School in Hopeton from first through fourth grade. He then attended Dacoma Schools for fifth through ninth grades. He began his tenth-grade year at Alva High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. While in high school, he lettered in basketball, baseball, and football. He served as Vice President of the Alva FFA Chapter during the 1970–1971 school year. He received the FFA Outstanding Service Award and was honored as an Honorary Chapter Member. Dale began his working life immediately after graduating from high school, taking a position with Devery Implement. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for agriculture. He later spent his summers custom harvesting from Texas to Wyoming and worked the remainder of each year at Shalloup Packing Company. Throughout his career, he remained closely connected to the farming and ranching community. He sold the High Plains Journal, serving farmers and ranchers across Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado. He eventually became an owner-operator truck driver, hauling grain and oil field equipment. In recent years, Dale returned to his agricultural roots by starting a cow-calf operation. One of his greatest joys was gifting each grandchild a new baby calf during calving season and sharing frequent updates on how they were doing. Dale supported his kids and grandkids in the show ring by raising registered Poland and Crossbred show pigs. He was present at every stock show, ready to help, eager to teach and share his knowledge and love for the livestock industry and the lessons it teaches about hard work, integrity, and heart. He didn’t just support his own; he supported countless local 4-H and FFA kids, providing a show pig to anyone who wanted to show but didn’t have the opportunity, and stepping in as an advisor/sponsor whenever he was needed.He sponsored a pasture and range judging team for local 4-H and FFA kids, spending countless hours taking them out to pastures, walking the land with them, teaching them about native grasses and what made each piece of ground unique, and traveling with the team to contests across Kansas and Oklahoma.He loved playing moon, canasta, taking random trips to the mountains, coon hunting with his brother and friends, and spending time outdoors. He loved taking his grandkids fishing, taking them for rides in his truck, watching dinosaur movies with them, and simply being together. Dale could never say “no” to his kids or grandkids. It didn’t matter how big the ask was; he would find a way to make it happen. He bragged on his kids and grandkids to anyone who would listen, and if you stood still long enough, you were going to hear about them. He was always so proud of his family. No one ever went hungry around him. He loved his KFC and McDonald’s and somehow always knew exactly where to find one in every town. He cherished large family get-togethers, where there was plenty of food, laughter, and the sharing of family stories that grew better with every retelling. He knew every mile marker from the East Coast to the West and gave directions in mile markers that only he truly understood. He loved taking pictures while on the road and sharing them with his family, bringing them along on every journey he made.He loved animals. He never met a stray he didn’t like, person or animal. His road companions, Shorty, Josie, and Missy, were always by his side, and he adored his grand dog Jake. He was a die-hard OU Sooners fan. Every referee call against OU was wrong, no exceptions. Saturdays were for football, stock shows and family. His family meant everything to him, and he meant everything to his family. Besides his parents, Dean and Patty, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Doyle Nusser; and a nephew, Ricky Baird. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Nusser of the home; his son, Shannon Nusser and his wife, Heather, of Alva; his daughter, Shelley Reidy and husband, Marcus, of Edmond; a bonus son, Jeremy Darr of Alva; grandchildren, Dakota Lane Nusser and fiancé, Lindsey, of Alva, Payden Dale Nusser and fiancé, Katelyn, of Alva, Adelynne Mae Reidy and Evan Jaret Reidy, both of Edmond, and two bonus grandchildren, Alexandria Darr and Degan Darr, both of Alva; his sister, Carolyn Baird and husband, Rex Ivan, of Waynoka; his sister-in-law, Jean Nusser, of Alva; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva 4-H and FFA Booster Club.
