Gwendolyn Evonne Kilgore

Funeral services for Evonne Kilgore will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derrick Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. Gwendolyn Evonne Hutchinson was born to Edith and Charles Hutchinson July 20, 1940, in Liberal, Kansas. She departed this life April 18, 2025, at Alva, at the age of 84. Evonne accepted Jesus as her savior and was baptized when she was 8 years old. Over many years, she served her Lord working in the church, caring for her family and others. She was voted the Outstanding Girl Award at the Ashland Kansas Christian Camp her junior year in high school. She attended school in Liberal, Kansas and at Tyrone, Oklahoma where she graduated with the Class of 1958. She was united in marriage to Dean Kilgore on June 1, 1958, at Pershing Avenue Christian Church in Liberal. From this union two sons were born: Randy Dean and Ricky Lane. In 1963, the family moved to Alva, Oklahoma. Evonne was a dedicated homemaker and her love of cooking offered comfort not only to her family but to others in need. She and Dean opened their home to two exchange students, Robert and Felipe. She enjoyed cooking homemade meals for them and would learn their native Polish and Brazilian recipes to remind them of home. She made holidays and birthdays extra special for her grandchildren by preparing their favorite desserts and whenever they weren’t feeling well, she would make their favorite meals to cheer them up. She would do anything to help a person in need and would often put together care packages for children and volunteer her time helping residents at Share Nursing Home. Evonne was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alva since 1964 where she was the Sunday School teacher for the junior high girls’ class for several years. She was also the head cook for the Wednesday night meals under three pastors, Jere Mitchel, Ron Argo, and Buddy Hunt. She loved her sons and her family very much and would do anything for them. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and they could always count on her to be at any events they had going on and offer them support. Evonne was preceded in death by her son, Randy; parents, Edith and Charles; stepfather, J.W.; sister, Nellie; brothers, Gene, Ronny, Jimmy, and her twin brother, Leon; and grandparents, Dee and Jessie Harvey. She is survived by her husband, Dean; son, Rick; grandchildren, Tiffani and Tim, Kale, Ericka and Brandon, Ashlee and Brittani, and Mitchel; great grandchildren, Kambrie, Abel, Averi, and Bodhi; sister, Diane and Jim; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Diabetes research or the Alva First Baptist Church for the Youth Department.
