Maynard Arndt

Funeral services for Maynard Arndt will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Pastor Ron Pingelton and Rev. Dr. Carol Cook Moore officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. There will be visitation with the family at the funeral home Thursday evening, from 5:30 until 7:00. Maynard Arndt, son of the late David Daniel and Pearl (Smith) Arndt, was born October 16, 1929, in Alva, Oklahoma, and passed away April 15, 2019, at Houston, Texas, at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 29 days. Maynard attended the Winchester School and graduated from Farry High School. On March 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Katharina Jean Schmitt at Alva. He spent his entire life in Woods County, engaging in farming and ranching. He also worked as a brick mason for several years. He was a member of the Alva Moose Lodge. In recent times, the Moose Lodge has been his main source of fun and fellowship. His family was always an important part of his life. His favorite past time was attending school and sporting events for all of his grandkids and great-grandkids. The St. Louis Cardinals was always his favorite baseball team. He read all of the books by William Johnstone, his favorite author. In his younger days, he loved to coon hunt. He loved all types of animals, and he particularly enjoyed taking care of his cattle and horses. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Leroy; and seven siblings, Jennie Culver, Edna McOsker, Leroy Arndt, Grace Wolgamott, Laura McMurphy, Arthur Arndt, and Hazel Farney. Maynard is survived by his wife, Katharina, of Alva; three daughters, Teresa Sutter and husband, Ed, of Alva, Tena Martin and husband, Mike, of Alva, and Rita Peterson and husband, Miles, of Alva; his daughter-in-law, Glenda Arndt of Alva; and one sister, Thelma Tavis of Chandler, Arizona. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Tiffani Ford and husband, Steve, of Elgin, Elliott Sutter and wife, Carley, of Houston, Texas, Matthew Sutter and wife, Naicee, of Alva, Blair Sutter and wife, Hannah, of Oklahoma City, Lori Caviness and husband, John, of Alva, Erica Miller and husband, Corey, of Enid, Dallas Arndt of Alva, Melanie Gaisford and husband, Jason, of Alva, Jim Lancaster of Enid, Katee Smith and husband, Jared, of Edmond, Grant Peterson of Gage, Grady Peterson of Loveland, Colorado, and Guy Peterson of Alva, Chris Martin and wife, Summer, of Edmond, and Joe Martin and wife, Kelsey, of Alva; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Alva Moose Lodge, or the charity of your choice.
